Daniel from the Pro Video team is back with another product overview video!
This time, we’re taking a look at the brand new full-frame cinema camera – the Canon EOS C400 Full Frame RF Cinema Camera.
Overall, we’re very impressed with the new model and all its exciting features. With a 6k sensor, an RF lens mount and new LCD monitor, this new camera has multiple configuration options and can fit a wide range of accessories. Due to ship in September of this year, the C400 will make for a great addition to your video production kit.
The C400 comes ready-to-shoot right out of the box, it just needs a lens and a memory card – no attachments or third party accessories required.
The camera comes with the newly developed LCD and monitor bracket, featuring touch-screen functionality, connecting over USB-C. The rod-mounted bracket is easily manoeuvrable with tilt-axis adjustment and two locking connectors for stability.
The side panel buttons are back-lit for viewing in dark enviroments. It features a 10stop ND filter control that is much faster than previous generations. It’s got all the standard side panel control you’re used to – audio gain, peaking, magnification and shutter. These buttons are also programmable for custom functionality.
The side-handle, powered over USB-C, fits via an Arri rosette mount. These can be fiddly, but you’ll likely see a third party quick release option available in the near future. The handle has trigger control, iris control and also features two separately programmable buttons.
It’s powered via a battery mount on the rear panel by the new Canon BPA30-N and BPA60-N series batteries. Mounting screws enable the fitting of a v-lock battery mount, which can then be used to power other accessories, via the 4-pin XLR.
The new top handle features a very sturdy build, with 4 seperate mounting points and thumbscrews for simple attachment. An active shoe mount on the top of the handle fits accessories, with the handle also supporting the rod-mount for the LCD monitor bracket. 6 1/4″ threads on the top also provide multiple other mounting options.
Out of the box, there are several recording options available to you.
Dual slots for CFexpress and SD cards enable simultaneous recording of XF-AVC, XF-HEVC S, XF-AVC S, and proxy data to an SD card while recording 6K RAW internally to a CFexpress card.
The C400 includes support for Canon-LOG2 and LOG3, to enable a wide dynamic range while shooting, all handled easily by Canon’s DIGIC DV7 processor.
